Dear friends and supporters:
First of all, I just would like to highlight, among others, two kinds of accomplishment the Khmer Alliance Foundation (KAF) has already achieved in the past two years in Svay Rieng province, and also to present you a new project o sttart this spring (2009) in Longvek Commune, Kompong Chhnang province.
Within the past two years, KAF had built a Community Hall in Wat Chey Oddom in Chamcar Mtes village, and a Schoolhouse of five classrooms in Koh Russei village, Chantrea district in Svay Rieng province. Local people who benefit services of the two facilities are very grateful of you all.
This year, at an executive meeting held on January1st in Phnom Penh, KAF board members decided to pursuit an overdue project of a “dam” frequently requested by villagers living nearby Wat Tralaeng Kaeng, Longvek Commune, Kompong Tralach district, Kompong Chhnang province. This decision is in response to the poverty and critical need of the people of Longvek, victims of the capture and looting by Siamese in 1594, marking another decline of the Khmer Empire after the fall of Angkor in 1431.
Now, for over 500 years, the former Khmer Capital City of Longvek has been reduced into a small commune, where some 200 families live on their ancestors’ lands in the vicinity of Wat Tralaen Kaeng, little known to people. Today, villagers of Longvek mainly depend on rice growing that is possible only during water retreat of the dry season. Since life-giving water is very important to rice growing in the dry season, a “dam” in O-Tatey is certainly very helpful for villagers of Longvek commune, on providing them high hope and better life in the future. A “dam” in concrete of 7.00m wide, 3.00m high, and a wooden gate will be built and finished this spring and summer. The total cost of the project is $15,000.00 (fifteen thousand dollars).
On behalf of KAF, a “Bridge Of Love And Caring”, we would like to humbly ask you to be part of a joint effort to helping and improving their lives condition as much as you can on providing them with high hope and better lives. In advance, they are very grateful of your donation!
On behalf of people of Longvek, we appreciate so much of your generosity and kindness. Please make your check payable to KAF and send it to:

Above is a Temporary dam built by villagers from palm- tree trunk in the creek of O-Tatey in Longvek
Commune, Kg. Tralach district, Kg. Chhnang province. The dam is used to irrigate 400 hectares of rice field belonging to 200 families.

This picture shows O-Tatey runing through the bushes in the background. The “dam” will divert water into its affluent as seen in the foreground, to irrigate 400ha of rice fields on both sides.
